Pavlyuchenko earns Tottenham victory

Spurs go third in League by handing first defeat to Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill

Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart set up the winning goal for Roman Pavlyuchenko

Tottenham 1-0 Sunderland

Substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko scored the only goal as Tottenham moved up to third and handed a first defeat to new Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill.
Russian forward Pavlyuchenko, who came off the bench after Aaron Lennon was taken off with a hamstring problem, broke the deadlock when he finished following Rafael van der Vaart's pass.
Luka Modric should have added a second for the home side and Nicklas Bendtner had a late chance to equalise, but the one goal proved enough for Tottenham to seal a sixth League win at home this season.
