Spurs go third in League by handing first defeat to Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill
Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart set up the winning goal for Roman Pavlyuchenko
Tottenham 1-0 Sunderland
Substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko scored the only goal as Tottenham moved up to third and handed a first defeat to new Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill.Russian forward Pavlyuchenko, who came off the bench after Aaron Lennon was taken off with a hamstring problem, broke the deadlock when he finished following Rafael van der Vaart's pass.
Luka Modric should have added a second for the home side and Nicklas Bendtner had a late chance to equalise, but the one goal proved enough for Tottenham to seal a sixth League win at home this season.
